Salmon on the Horizon

Welcome to the Argo Not So Weekly Newsletter!

It’s only been nearly seven consecutive months in the bay, but the Argo is about bust out with the reopening of salmon season on June 23. The “early season,” which closes at the end of this month, has been mostly quite solid for folks willing to make a long run, or at times, venture up the Marin coastline.

All bodes well for what is generally an excellent time of year to chase salmon as they begin moving toward their birthplace. With luck, most of our runs will be within sight of shore and along the San Mateo or Marin county boundaries.

Between salmon trips, halibut will continue as the alternate species. To date, halibut activity is overall excellent with the occasional slower day thrown into the mix. Fortunately, the tough days are often followed by greatly improved results. Even when the wind is blowing there are often productive locations within the bay.

Another alternative is rockfish – excellent table fare and mostly plentiful. Our bottom fishing ventures are generally full-day charters on good weather days.

We’re getting into that busier time of year when looking and booking at least a few weeks ahead, is especially prudent if planning a weekend venture.

For the latest update or if you have questions, email or call (415) 361-7757. As with all our trips tackle, bait, and fish cleaning are included in the price.

Good Fishing,
